Hot Pepper Pickle

Fall is here, time to put summer into jars

I've been fighting it, but its time to put away the flip flops and pull out down vests. First canning project: hot pepper pickle. I bought about 3 pounds of mixed jalapeno, Hungarian and chili peppers at the farmers market and followed David Lebovitz's recipe. I haven't tested them yet (I'm a hot stuff super wimp - these will have to be tested my guy) but they sure look pretty!

Beautiful abandoned house

Dreaming life into abandoned structures

One day I'm going to turn downtrodden houses into homes again. This one is near Salmon Arm on my favourite road ride. I love the idea of turning something abandoned into a living, breathing space again. Sort of like recycling... But with houses. Real estate gurus might have something to say about the economic ridiculousness of this plan, but there must be other people out there like me, who would want to have a house like this returned to life.

Reclaiming Space in Texas

In my continual search for the perfect tiny home, one of the favourite companies I've found is Reclaimed Space, from Texas. They create small sustainable homes using reclaimed materials. They have an amazing aesthetic and a story to tell, as the materials come from homes with "historical or architectural significance". Texas might be a bit too far though to economically ship one of these to me...

From their website:
The Reclaimed Space model is as local and sustainable as possible; from de-constructing abandoned homes for rural towns, giving boy scouts projects to achieve Eagle Scout, removing a blight for the community, saving landfill space, employing local tradesmen and delivering a sustainably designed structure with a "positive footprint."

Hi there

By the way, welcome to my blog. This is my first post. I'm not sure where this blog will take me, but I intend to use it to reflect on the things that I obsess about and as a tool to motivate myself.

If I put my thoughts out into the world, will it motivate me to follow through and live a more purposeful life?
